Faces of Bulgaria

« Previous Page

In Fall 2006, the Bulgarian Center proudly presented an exhibit of photographs taken by Kamen Bonev in Koprivshtitsa, Bulgaria, during the 2005 national folklore festival. Every five years the Koprivshtitsa festival brings together amateur music and dance ensembles from communities across Bulgaria.

Kamen's images are most often candid portraits, capturing festival participants in offstage moments of preparation or repose. The combination of youthful and mature subjects highlight the continuity of cultural traditions passed down from one generation to the next.

Kamen was educated as a photographer and cinematographer at the College of Photography and at the National Academy of Theater and Film Arts, in Sofia, Bulgaria. His professional work includes forensic and medical photography, as well as underwater video and still photography for archeological and biological research. Kamen has also worked as a cinematographer and videographer for a wide array of artistic and commercial projects. His photographs have been published in numerous books and periodicals.

His photos are available for purchase. Please call 412-461-6188 for more information and exhibit hours.
